Stitch Crafts for the Apple Macintosh is a computer aided design program
developed to replace graph paper and pencil as the standard method of generating
charts for needlework and related crafts. Using Stitch Crafts speeds the
creation, correction and manipulation of charted designs and design elements.
A chart is created and perfected "on screen", with mouse movements
replacing tedious erasures, until the finished chart is printed, ready to
be transferred to fabric, canvas or loom.
Version 2.32 was released in January, 1995
Symbols. Select from a palette of 50 user editable symbols. Save your edited symbols for use in future projects. Cut and paste symbols from one project to another. Automatically change symbols within a selection boundary or within an entire project.
Colors. Assign colors to symbols from a palette of 428 predefined DMC® colors, or select from over 16 million pure colors. Change or add your own colors to the DMC® color card.
Lines. Draw outline (back) stitches along grid lines and diagonals using any single color and up to 2 point widths.
View. View and edit your chart in any of 3 display modes - symbols, colors or both.
Zoom. View and edit your chart in any of 3 zoom levels - a standard view for normal editing, a closeup view for fine details and a faraway view for manipulating large areas of the project.
Silhouette. View your chart in silhouette where all symbols are reduced to the dimension of a single pixel. Analyze for overall placement and symmetry. In colors, the silhouette view appears like a picture of the final project.
Grids. Select any of 3 grid styles - corner (a single dot at the grid intersections for a very light appearance), dotted (a thin dotted line for a light appearance) and line (a thin solid black line). Place a heavy ruled line every 10th square or at any regular interval of your choosing. Specify a square or rectangular grid aspect ratio (eg., for knitting designs).
Cut and Paste. Cut and Paste selected motifs among multiple open projects. Reuse designs, borders, alphabets and even entire layouts.
Color Chart. Define your own layout of the color key chart. All entries are editable. If colors are selected from the DMC® color palette, then the color chart is built automatically. Optionally include stitch count and area calculations for each symbol for keeping track of thread usage.
Drawing. Auto-fill any selected area with a symbol or color. Selectively erase a single symbol, backstitch or combination within a selected area. Mirror image motifs horizontally or vertically. Rotate in 90 degree increments.
Counting. Show a floating counter window for display of relative and absolute coordinates within the project for easy counting.
Printouts. Obtain a WYSIWYG printout of your chart and color chart in the traditional cross stitch symbol format.
Automation. Create your charts automatically from your favorite pictures either digitized or scanned. Colors are automatically assigned the closest DMC® match. Write your sampler verse in a paint program using all fonts available to your system and "capture" the text directly into your cross stitch project.

"I purchased "Stitch Crafts" last summer & it has already paid for itself. I sold $600 worth of designs to Leisure Arts, Inc.!" - G.W., Arlington, TX

" 'Sew Many Stitches' is a mail-order cross stitch design business. It would not have been possible to turn my avocation into a vocation in the bad old days of pencils and a year's supply of erasers! Every one of my designs is created with Stitch Crafts (the only design program I use), and the charts are then exported into PageMaker 4.0, for a professionally printed appearance." - S.C.R., Redlands, CA
"I am a registered user and avid fan of your Stitch Crafts program. ... It has done wonders for my design output, and made this formerly least-liked part of the stitchery process my favorite." - J.H., Golden Valley, MN
"I design counted thread cross stitch, and I am thrilled with your Stitch Crafts program. I was able to learn the program quickly and within hours I had accomplished what used to take me days. With Stitch Crafts it is easy to revise a design and to adjust the final chart symbols for maximum clarity. I am so pleased with the way the charts print on my DeskWriter that I feel like framing them." - L.A.M., San Jose, CA
"I love the program! I've been having a great time with it. It is running just fine on System 7! You are miles ahead of your competition. Its ease of use is wonderful - intuitive, as all Mac applications are supposed to be.." - D.S., Auburn, MA
"It's an excellent product - even for a computer novice! Thanks for making it possible!" - E.D., Nashville, TN
"I write to advise that I received my Macintosh Stitch Crafts software on Monday, and I am absolutely delighted with it. It is just what I expected, and more, and I've been having great fun with it." - M.C., Australia
"This American program must be the answer to the prayers of anyone designing cross stitch patterns using an Apple Macintosh computer. As the manual states 'the primary objective is to provide a tool to relieve the tedious task of developing counted cross stitch charts with graph paper and pencil.' It certainly does that! -review, Computer Textile Design Group Newsletter, April 1993
